These summer months have been wonderful
both in terms of the weather for shooting and the overall
progression of my work. My shows have also been hugely
successful, and since the last newsletter I have dabbled in many
new areas: from a TV interview, to shooting my first
wedding, to riding along with the crew on a historic railway,
and much, much more. I have prepared a few photos from
each of these things, but I have been so wildly busy lately that
I have really only scratched the surface with these examples..
so expect to see more photos from these shoots down the road!
haha
As I look through the collection I have
prepared for you today, what jumps off the page for me is how
much these photographs were influenced by the supporters of my
work. Yes, I love going out and doing the act of
photographing, but that only part of it. It truly is the
involvement of and feedback from others that have fueled
my work onto the next level, and I will be the first to admit
that. So as you continue on in your reading and viewing, I
hope you can see a little bit of yourself reflecting back at you
from through these images.
..And now,
some of the pieces I've been working on: [Can't see
'em?

After giving it some thought, I
have decided that, to each show, I will take one large
and really unique piece to feature. That "One of a
Kind" piece will be treated as an "Original" and will be
the only print of that given image I will ever print.
I feel this piece I have recently completed below could
be one such candidate. I will print it in three
separate sections as shown, and on a grand scale (I am
thinking at least 48" x 24" for this one). |

This photo was taken during an
outing I took with a Photography Professor from
Northern Kentucky University who had recently retired.
He had seen my work at a show, then attended the
presentation on Dynamic Photography that I gave for the
Photography Club of Greater Cincinnati. It was
wonderful sharing our respective knowledge of the art
with each other out in the field, and I hope to do it
again soon. |

As I have mentioned time and again,
it is at these are shows that I have met a few of the
greatest, most impactful people on the quality and
breadth of my work. This photograph represents one
such find.
-- As a little boy (and now again
as I watch with my 2 year old niece =] ) watching
"Thomas the Tank Engine" I had dreamed of one day being
a part of the crew. Riding along inside the engine
of a diesel engine from the WWII era is certainly
the closest I have come to doing so thus far!--
One
of the members of the
White Water Valley Railroad Board of Directors (who
is also an Engineer, Conductor and a Brakeman on the
line) had been strolling around at Summerfair, about
ready to call it a day when he looked into my booth and
saw one of my most popular pieces "Glendale Train" hung
proudly on my wall. Well, it caught his attention
and the rest, they say, is history. I have plans
of returning several more times this year and well into
the future to see (and photograph!) all the different
types of interesting and historical Engines his
organization brings in.. and he tells me there is Train
Junkyard that is right up my alley! I simply can
not wait! Again, many thanks to WWVR for their
most gracious hospitality to me on my first real
railroad adventure! |

I do not normally include portraits
into my newsletters, but the quality of my portrait work
has just improved so tremendously lately that I would be
remiss if I did not include just a couple of them as an
update. |

This photograph was taken in
Glendale, Ohio where one of the galleries offering my
work is located. Typical of me, I headed out on an
overcast day just moments before a storm was to move in
over this brilliant looking fire station. |

In June I had
my first opportunity to photograph a
Wedding. Capturing a
once-in-a-lifetime live event is
unlike anything else I have done
prior. It is a fast moving
game, and there are no second
chances. With an order list of
shots to get, I raced around from
side to side, from the choir loft to
back down again. From what I
can tell, I hit every mark and the
day went smoothly. The weather
could not have been any more
perfect, the ceremony any more
beautiful. Congrats and thank
you to James and Laura McCafferty! |

Thanks
again to the countless many of you
who stopped in to see me in the
area's largest and most prominent
show, Cincinnati Summerfair!
My work received
Honorable Mention (top 4 or 5)
among the select group of the
phenomenal photographers invited
into the show. Quite a few of
you I met either at the Summerfair
Art Show or at the Francisco's Farm
Art Festival and are receiving your
very first newsletter update..
Welcome! Many thanks again for
your words of encouragement.. they
have made all the difference. |
